The northbound lanes of Highway 11, south of Big Chief Road, were closed this evening due to a vehicle fire. Orillia OPP say the highway reopened just before 7:30 p.m.

A vehicle fire snarled traffic on Highway 11 this evening.

The driver of a pickup truck smelled smoke and pulled his vehicle to the side of the busy highway, before it became engulfed in flames, said Orillia OPP Const. Ted Dongelmans.

Severn Township firefighters were able to douse the pesky fire, but the northbound lanes of Highway 11, south of Big Chief Road, were "completely blocked" for almost an hour.

Dongelmans said the highway reopened at about 7:20 p.m.

He said there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is not certain.
