Ward 3 candidate drops out of Oro-Medonte election race

Sean Power originally ran to challenge Cathy Keane, but is dropping out to make way for 'a real up-and-comer and a real go-getter'
Welcome to Oro-Medonte sign

Ward 3 candidate Sean Power has dropped out of the Oro-Medonte municipal election race.

Power said the decision came after meeting with fellow Ward 3 candidate David Clark.

“Because of our interactions, I've realized that we're very much on the same page in terms of issues, in terms of honesty, in terms of ethics,” Power told OrilliaMatters. “He’s particular to the area, he's (from) an old family and he's a real up-and-comer and a real go-getter.”

Power said he originally decided to run when he saw incumbent Ward 3 Coun. Cathy Keane was uncontested in the race, citing concerns about an integrity commissioner investigation Keane was subject to in 2021.

Power also highlighted concerns with the current council’s actions on various issues, such as short-term rentals and cannabis farms, but said he has “come to realize that (Clark’s) probably much more the best candidate for the job.”

With Power’s decision to rescind his run for council, Clark and Keane are the lone candidates running in Ward 3.
