WATCH: Feds reveal details for student grants, internships amid COVID-19 pandemic

Trudeau is also expected to announce an increase in funding for other existing programs

Update:

The federal government's new Canada Student Service Grant will allow post-secondary students and recent grads to gain experience while contributing to their communities. Grants between $1,000 and $5,000 are available for volunteers, depending on how many volunteer hours are completed.

Today's launch of the 'I want to help' online platform will finally provide more information about who's eligible for the grants, the number of hours needed to qualify for various levels of grant money, how to apply and how applications will be assessed.

It will also include a list of not-for-profit organizations for which volunteer work will be compensated.

Trudeau also announced $40M in funding for MiTacs internships for post-secondary students as part of $9B plans. MiTacs builds partnerships between universities and industries so that students can gain valuable work experience. This funding will help expand opportunities to undergrad students and students in professional programs.

Canada Summer Jobs will receive funding for 10,000 new job placements for Canadians ages 15-20, while the Student Work Placement Program will be receiving funding for 20,000 jobs for post-secondary students in high-demand sectors.
