WATCH: Provincial government to spend $13M on programs for youth, families

$13M will be spent to support community-driven and youth-led projects in Ontario

Premier Doug Ford announced today that the provincial government is investing more than $13 million to support community-driven and youth-led projects to improve the well-being of children, youth, and families facing economic and social barriers.

The funding will stream through the 2020 Youth Opportunities Fund.

Projects receiving funding this year include:

  • Black Moms Connection ― focusing on economic empowerment for Black mothers across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
  • Immigrants francophones d'Afrique pour l'intégration et le développement (IFAPID) to support newcomers from Francophone African nations to navigate financial systems in Canada.
  • Earthling Art Collective ― to provide development and mentorship opportunities for youth leaving care and the justice system in Thunder Bay.
  • Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training ― to help Indigenous youth in the GTA access employment and training opportunities in the skilled trades.

Premier Doug Ford is expected to provide a COVID-19 update at Queen's Park at 1:00 p.m. today.

The announcement comes a day after Windsor-Essex got the green light to move into Stage 2 of the province's regional reopening.

However, two towns within that region remain in Stage 1, a six farms are experiencing outbreaks of COVID-19 (four in Leamington and two in Kingsville).

Ford will be joined by Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliott and Jill Dunlop, the associate minister of children and women's issues to make the announcement.
