Anyone trying to get into Quebec from Highway 63 in Temiscaming or further North at Notre-Dame-du-nord will now be greeted by Quebec Provincial Police.

The news came down today by the Quebec government about border restrictions at 4 p.m. today according to Temiscaming Mayor Yves Ouellet.

"I was able to talk to a QPP officer to confirm that I had well understood the Message given by the Vice-Premier today," Ouellet said via Facebook Saturday.

"Indeed, since 4 p.m., agents are installed at the entrance of Temiscaming and Notre-Dame-du-nord to exercize a 'control.'

Ouellet says the QPP will ask questions to people to inquire about their reason for their entrance on our territory.

"Rayonier employees from Ontario will be allowed to go to work.  People with medical appointments will also allowed in.  Delivery and transportation services will be maintained," said Ouellet.

However, if a group arrives with the intention to go Ice Fishing, they will be turned back along with Cottager coming from outside the area wanted to go to their cottage.

Ouellet says their region is one of the eight areas in Quebec affected by these measures, in order to protect our population against the spread of COVID-19.

"Any persons showing symptoms of COVID-19 will not be allowed entrance to Abitibi-Témiscamingue," said Ouellet.

"We all found out about this at the last minute and I am sure there will be more clarification over the next few days. This situation evolves at every moment!

Ouellet insists he will keep area residents posted on new developments as they are informed.
