Jacquie Dancyger Arnold joins local musical group in May 13 concert at St. Paul's Centre

On May 13, the Orillia Concert Band is pleased to present "Celebrate the Classics" featuring guest pianist Jacquie Dancyger Arnold.

Jacquie is going to perform Grieg’s powerful Piano Concerto in A Minor as well as the beautiful Solfeggietto, by Carl Philip Emmanuel Bach, who seemed to understand Disco Music far in advance of his time!

When not accompanying Jacquie, the Orillia Concert Band will be performing some famous band classics for your enjoyment, welcoming Spring with joy, dance and fanfare!

Herald the trumpeting daffodils, dance around the May-Pole, dream of romance, longing, glory and honour in this Celebration the Classics!

The concert starts at 7:30 on Saturday, May 13 and is presented at St. Paul’s Centre, 62 Peter St. N.

Couchiching Craft Brewing Co. will be running a bar in the lobby, pre-show and at intermission. Beer, cider, wine and light snacks will be available for purchase. There is also a new water bottle filling station in the lobby as well so bring your favourite water bottle.

Information on the performers:

The Orillia Concert Band is a 45-member recreational band based in the Orillia area, featuring wind, brass, and percussion instruments. Members range in age between 18 years to 81 years! The OCB presents a 3-concert series each year plus charitable fund raisers and concerts for special events. Our featured performer, Jacquie Dancyger Arnold, is a celebrated pianist who has been playing since the age of 4, teaching since age 11, and who had received over 50 awards and medals and four scholarships by the time she was 16. She retired as Head of Music from George S. Henry Academy in North York in 1999. Since coming to Orillia, she has performed many times with accompaniment by numerous musical groups. Her repertoire of works includes Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue; Liszt’s Hungarian Fantasies; Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No.2; and Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Piano Concerto. Those of us who have played with her or who have been part of the lucky audience regard those events as absolute highlights in our musical lives.

The Orillia Concert Band’s music director, Randy Hoover, has been a contributor to the Orillia music community for many years. He has a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario as well as a Master’s of Education degree from St. Mary’s University. He holds an Associate Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Trumpet Performance.

He has taught secondary school music in Nova Scotia, as well as Shelburne and Orangeville. For the past seven years Randy has taught at Lakehead in the education program.

Locally, Randy has played in the Orillia Concert Band, the Orillia Silver Band, the Sensations Rhythm and Blues Band and with the Mariposa Arts Theatre. He is founder of the Leacock Brass Quintet and has been conductor of the Orillia Silver Junior Band. He is the founder of the Jazz Standards Trio and is currently the Music Director of the Orillia Concert Band and the Orillia Big Band.
