Health unit confirms 8 new COVID cases in Simcoe County

Six of the new cases are residents in Barrie, while two others are from Bradford West Gwillimbury

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed eight more cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County today. 

The new cases include six Barrie residents and two Bradford West Gwillimbury residents. 

Among the Barrie cases are three men between 18 and 34 years old. Two of those cases are listed as close contact transmission while the third is still under investigation. The other three Barrie cases include two men and a woman, all between 45 and 64 years old. One of the men is listed as a close contact transmission, while the other two are under investigation. 

The two Bradford cases include a woman between 18 and 34 years old and a woman between 35 and 44 years old, whose cases was community-acquired. The first case is still under investigation. One person from Bradford has been hospitalized with COVID.

Cases previously reported in Wasaga Beach (one case) and Ramara (one case) are now listed as recovered.

There are two active outbreaks at long-term care facilities in the region, including at Roberta Place in Barrie where one staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The other facility is The Pines Long Term Care Residence in Bracebridge where one staff member and one resident have tested positive for the coronavirus. 

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported a total of 778 coronavirus cases in the region to date, with 736 of the cases in Simcoe County. Of all the cases in Simcoe-Muskoka, 680 are listed as recovered and 37 people have died. One person from New Tecumseth and one person from Bradford West Gwillimbury is in hospital.

The health unit reports there are 55 unrecovered cases in Simcoe County, including 42 in Barrie, five in Bradford, one in New Tecumseth, four in Innisfil, one in Springwater, and two in Orillia. There are six unrecovered cases in Muskoka District.
