Redline Brewhouse is getting into the hand-sanitizer business.

The Barrie brewery has modified some of its facilities to make hand sanitizer due to shortages caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. And with orders placed by Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), the brewery is planning to start production as soon as possible.

“We were seeing other companies – both local and not – try to retool and change their businesses to make different things we’re short on right now in the world,” said Darci Williams, co-owner and marketing manager for Redline. “We decided we still wanted to stay open as a brewery... but we have a lot of the equipment needed to do distilling and manufacturing of the sanitizer.

"It’s our little way of helping out locally.”

Williams said they have a contract to make the sanitizer for RVH and for every order placed by the hospital, they intend to also donate quantities at a one-to-one ratio.

“To get up and running, we needed orders from hospitals and medical supply companies, so once we fill those orders, which shouldn’t take too long, we’ll be ready to open it up to the public,” Williams told BarrieToday.

“Our goal is to have the purchase of hand sanitizer open to the public as soon as possible,” she added.

Williams said the brewery’s social-media page will post when the hand sanitizer will be available to the public. To follow their Facebook page, click here.

“We’ve never done this before, either, so to be honest with you, we’re flying by the seat of our pants,” Williams said with a laugh.
