While most businesses are being forced to lay people off due to the global pandemic, that's not the case everywhere.

In fact, both Zehrs and Shoppers Drug Mart in Orillia are in dire need of some help.

"We are actually recruiting right across the province, especially in the Orillia area," said Mark Boudreau, director of corporate affairs for Loblaws.

"We’ve had a number of colleagues needing to stay home for a number of reasons, including: childcare with daycares closed, travel, and personal health situations," he said.

"Also, our supply chain is moving quickly, and people’s shopping patterns have changed," he told OrilliaMatters.

"For example, people have been stocking up and (we have experienced) more use of our PC Express online option," said Boudream. "That means there are additional staff required to do other jobs.

"In addition to this, we want to ease the load of our current store colleagues, as they’ve been working very hard, (working) long hours to ensure we are providing quality service, while at the same time ensuring that our stores are a safe place to shop," Boudreau said.

Loblaw has created a new website (Loblawjobs.ca) to quickly recruit temporary workers to help in stores and distribution centres.

“With all that’s going on, we know there are some people out there who are looking for work,” said Mark Wilson, head of Human Resources for Loblaw and Shoppers Drug Mart. “If there are people looking to be employed and paid right now, maybe we can help each other out.”
