Oro-Medonte woman, Severn man among new COVID-19 cases in region

This is the first confirmed case in Oro-Medonte since April 20; In all, there are nine new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the region since Friday

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health unit has reported nine new COVID-19 cases in the region confirmed since Friday.

There are three other community-acquired transmissions reported in the region including an Oro-Medonte woman in her 40s, a Severn man in his 30s, and an Innisfil man in his 30s.

This is the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Oro-Medonte since April 20.

One case of the nine is reported in Gravenhurst. The latest Muskoka case is a man in his 60s who acquired the virus through community transmission. Before today, the last case out of Gravenhurst was reported on April 13.

There are three new cases in Barrie, including a boy between 10 and 19 years old, and a woman in her 30s. The woman’s case is considered community transmission and the boy’s case is close contact.

The third Barrie case, a woman in her 50s, is a staff member at Owen Hill Care Community in Barrie. Her positive result reinstated the outbreak status at Owen Hill, even though the outbreak was reported over last week.

There is a new case out of Essa, a man in his 70s, which is considered close contact.

The final case, a man in his 20s, out of Penetanguishene remains under investigation. The Central North Correctional Centre confirmed a recently admitted inmate at the facility was confirmed positive for COVID-19.

There have now been 476 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the Simcoe-Muskoka region, and 389 people are reported recovered. Thirty-six people have died from the coronavirus, including 23 residents of two long-term care homes – Bradford Valley Care Community and Owen Hill Care Community.

There are seven people hospitalized in the region, and six of those patients hospitalized are from Simcoe County.

The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe County is 86.7 cases per 100,000 people. The provincial average is 190.1 cases per 100,000 population.

The case breakdown by municipality, according to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, is as follows:

  • Barrie (154 cases, 125 recoveries, 14 deaths)
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (100 cases, 77 recoveries, 12 deaths, one in hospital)
  • New Tecumseth (50 cases, 43 recoveries, two in hospital, one death)
  • Orillia (17 cases, 13 recoveries, two deaths, one in hospital)
  • Collingwood (15 cases, all recovered)
  • Wasaga Beach (13 cases, 12 recoveries, one death)
  • Clearview (Seven cases, six recoveries, one death)
  • Innisfil (37 cases, 31 recoveries, one in hospital)
  • Springwater (nine cases, seven recoveries, one death)
  • Midland (six cases, all recovered)
  • Oro-Medonte (six cases, three recoveries, two deaths)
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (seven cases, all recovered)
  • Essa (13 cases, eight recoveries, one death)
  • Ramara (seven cases, six recoveries)
  • Tiny (three cases, all recovered)
  • Tay (five cases, four recoveries, one in hospital)
  • Penetanguishene (four cases, three recovered)
  • Severn (four cases, three recovered)
