Patient, family give glimpse into life at OSMH amid pandemic (8 photos)

In this week's Soldiers' Spirit, a local family shares their experience at OSMH, saying they 'couldn't have asked for a better team or experience'

Editor's note: OrilliaMatters is partnering with Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Foundation to pay tribute to the front-line 'soldiers' who are going above and beyond the call of duty inside Orillia's hospital in what is expected to be a protracted battle against the COVID-19 global pandemic. We will endeavour to publish this every Friday until the pandemic passes.

This week, through our regular Soldiers' Spirit segment, we offer a glimpse into what it's like to be a patient amid a pandemic.

Despite COVID-19, Soldiers' emergency department is always open. That was welcome news for the Szreier family.

Carson Szreier had to spend last weekend at OSMH to have his appendix removed

His care journey spanned several departments and despite all the precautions being taken against COVID, his mom, Jess, had this to say:

"Special thanks to Lindsay and Jenn in the ER, Angela, Tara and Wendy in Pediatrics, Emily & Emily in PACU and Anita in the operating room as well as Dr. Bashir, Dr. Cape and Dr. Wong," said Carson's mom.

"From banana popsicles to allowing window visits and making TikTok videos, we couldn't have asked for a better team or experience," she said.

It's a reminder that front-line heath-care workers continue to go above the call of duty amid this pandemic to treat and care for patients. They are the 'soldiers' of OSMH.
