Postal workers walk off the job at Barrie facility over COVID-19 worries

Canada Post rep says it was a misunderstanding; 'We have proceeded with a precautionary cleaning of the facility to put the employees' minds at ease'

Some staff walked off the job at Canada Post's distribution centre in Barrie last night over possible COVID-19 concerns, but a spokeserson for the Crown corporation says the situation has been rectified and it was all a misunderstanding.

On Wednesday night, some employees at the Morrow Road facility in south-end Barrie went home following concerns about another employee’s medical issue, a Canada Post spokesperson said.

“It was not related to COVID-19, but some employees were immediately concerned and some left,” the representative wrote in an email. “We have proceeded with a precautionary cleaning of the facility to put the employees' minds at ease.”

The representative added the incident was a misunderstanding and “was resolved and we returned to normal operations (Thursday) morning.”
