NEWS RELEASE
TOWNSHIP OF SEVERN
*************************
Township of Severn is issuing an immediate fire ban following Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry’s Restricted Fire Zone Declaration. All open-air burning is prohibited in Severn to help ensure public safety and well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our top priority is the health and safety of our community,” said Fire Chief Tim Cranney. “This action protects residents from the risk of preventable human-caused fires and reduces inessential demands on our volunteer firefighters.”

During a fire ban, residents cannot have an outdoor fire—this includes burning of grass, debris and campfires, even when using an outdoor fire grate, fireplace or fire pit. Portable gas stoves may still be used but must be handled with extreme care.

The fire ban will remain in place until further notice.
