OrilliaMatters has received the following letter to the editor from Keenan Aylwin, the Green Party candidate in Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte who is upset about the Conservative Party appointing a candidate in the riding.
Dear PC Supporters & Members,
What your leader has done is undemocratic and unfair. Appointing a candidate who doesn’t live in the riding and disregarding the people who had put their names forward is insulting and unacceptable. You deserve better.
Join us in demanding a better democracy, putting people ahead of political gain. Join us in supporting small, local businesses with a concrete plan for lower payroll taxes. Join us in our demand for fiscal responsibility, paying down the debt to secure our future. That’s the Green Party of Ontario’s vision, and you can make it happen.
I know that we may not agree on every issue or every policy - and that’s okay. But I also know that if we stand together and demand better from our politicians, that we can change Ontario politics forever.
You may be tempted to sit this election out - after all, your party has given you every reason to walk away. But, this election is too important to stay home. Last provincial election, in this riding, fewer than 50% of people cast a ballot and if we allow the status-quo parties to continue the political games, it will only get worse. So, please, get out and vote - make your voice heard.
Finally, I want you to know that over the course of the election campaign I will be working hard to earn your respect, your trust and ultimately your vote. And if you decide to cast your ballot for real change with the Green Party of Ontario and stand with me, I promise you that I will be your strong voice at Queen’s Park.
I grew up in Barrie, I care deeply about this community and I will work tirelessly to bring your concerns to the forefront. That’s what democracy is all about.
Candidate (Green Party) for MPP in Barrie—Springwater—Oro-Medonte
