Reader questions need for external auditor

OrilliaMatters received the following letter from Konrad Brenner in response to last week’s provincial election.

***********************

The voters have spoken and we have a new provincial government, promising efficiency and financial prudence. However, the first “governing” statements are not promising.

The first announcement by the Premier-elect was that it would take 21 days to transfer power. Why so long? And, the emphasis was on “power”, not work.

The second announcement was that the new government would engage an external auditor to determine the financial state of the province. These auditors cost money. It also implies that the Premier-elect does not trust the civil service to tell him the truth and he does not accept the fact that civil servants are politically neutral. Both assumptions will lead to extra future costs.
