OrilliaMatters received the following letter from Fred Larsen, asking readers to submit stories about leading a sustainable life in Orillia:

Sustainable Orillia is now a reality!

Following the launch events on May 24-25 and the compiling of the more than 180 ideas that emerged from the Lakehead conference, our Task Force has met with sector leaders to consider our next steps.

One of those steps is a regular communication with the Orillia community. To that end, OrilliaMatters has agreed to publish a regular weekly feature (day to be announced) to promote and encourage lifestyle changes — acts of sustainability — in Orillia.

What our group would like that regular publication to consist of is first, a local story about something that Orillia citizens are doing to change their lifestyle to make it more sustainable (i.e. less energy usage, less waste, less pollution); and second, a tip from Sustainable Orillia (and our research) about one more thing that we can all do.

So here’s what we’re asking. If you have one of those stories — if you have taken a step in the past few weeks or months to change the way you do things so that you are living more sustainably — we would ask that you send us your story.

Preferably, we would also like to use your name along with your story, so please let us know if we have your permission to use your name. (If you prefer, we can keep the story author anonymous, but we think it preferable to let the community know who it comes from.)

Please send your stories (preferably 150 to 250 words in length or less) and a photo to us at [email protected]

Check out our website, especially if you have missed our launch events. Take a look at the articles under each sector heading. They will give you a general sense of our goals and where we hope to go in the months and years ahead.

We await your stories. Thanks for being part of Sustainable Orillia.
