OrilliaMatters received the following letter regarding our recent story, 'OSMH says patient care hours won't be cut despite loss of RNs.'

Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital recently announced the elimination of 14 registered nurse positions without the mentioning of new positions in other classifications that might help mitigate these cuts.

Cheryl Harrison, executive vice-president of patient programs and people strategy, made a few statements on this reduction. Her comments were as long and convoluted as is her tittle.

In her comments, she implied that there would be no reduction in patient services.

Fourteen staff positions represent approximately a 1% reduction in hospital staff.

In an increasing patient-load environment, without automation, and after many years of working on efficiency improvements, a 1% cut in staff will reduce some services.
