OrilliaMatters received the following letter from the organizers of the recent Orillia's Choice Awards event at Geneva Event Centre.

The organizers of the third annual Orillia’s Choice Awards welcomed 75 enthusiastic participants to the Geneva Event Centre on May 9, when five local citizens pitched their ideas on how to make Orillia a happier, healthier and more sustainable community/or place to live

The success of this event owes much to its sponsors, including Don Porter of the Geneva Event Centre, Brewery Bay Food Co., Information Orillia, Rustica Pizza Vino, Wendy McQuaig Therapy and Councilor Jay Fallis.

Many thanks to them for their donations which allowed innovative Orillia citizens to step up, pitch their idea and receive funding and support for their initiatives.

The Sunshine Initiative's Orillia’s Choice Awards saw five proponents pitch their ideas to a panel of judges and a lively audience. The judges (Jay Fallis, Orillia City Councillor; Thyme Thompson of the Orillia Youth Centre; and Frank Matys of Orillia Today) handed out over $1,500 to the proponents to help them get started.

Several members of the audience, including the host and several city councillors, added donations of their own to top up the support.

We greatly appreciate, celebrate and thank the sponsors of this event!

Valerie Powell and Gordon Ball
Co-Chairs, the Sunshine Initiative Working Group
