The following letter is in response to a story about mayoral candidate Mason Ainsworth’s claims of threats and a bribery attempt, published Sept. 29, and a letter regarding the matter, published Sept. 30.

“Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.”

This is generally used to describe corruption or a situation in which something is wrong. There is definitely something wrong in Orillia, especially during this mayoral election.

For Mason Ainsworth to go to the police and ask for an OPP Investigation, and for them to confirm that they are probing into it, that tells us a lot. It means they have taken his “claims” seriously, about all of his allegations.

As this investigation carries on, I am hoping that the OPP dig hard and dig deep. Nothing should be overlooked, and everything scrutinized. If nobody has anything to hide, they should welcome this Investigation.

After all, Orillia does “deserve a mayor who will do a good job,” and that is Mason Ainsworth. Myself and a lot of other supporters for Mason will tell you the same thing.
