LETTER: Reader chastises county for not 'buying Canadian'

'As a Canadian taxpayer I'm disappointed the county couldn't use my tax dollars to support Canadian ... auto workers', laments letter writer

I noticed that the vehicle being bragged about (A Hyundai Kona EV) is an import.  As a Canadian taxpayer I'm disappointed that the county couldn't use my tax dollars to support Canadian, or at least North American auto workers.

There are such vehicles available which will do the same job and help our Canadian economy. Government organizations in Canada should be required to at least try to source and purchase Canadian made goods with Canadian taxpayers' money.

It can be really upsetting when I see people carrying on about their wonderful imported vehicle, then complain about the state of our economy. Why can't people realize that it is 'us', who, by buying imported goods instead of sourcing Canadian made items, 'we' are really the ones who are doing the damage to our Canadian economy?

Living in this country, most of us get paid in Canadian dollars. Why don't we support Canadian workers by trying to spend our Canadian dollars on Canadian made/grown items?

Let's extend "buy local" to "Buy Canadian" as much as possible. Maybe then we will get back to manufacturing and growing more things in our own country, to support our own workers, and improve our Canadian economy. We hold the key.

Thanks for your time and consideration.
