The following letter is in response to an article about efforts to bring a nurse practitioner-led clinic to Orillia, published Feb. 3.

I am so pleased to hear of the efforts being made to bring a nurse practitioner-led clinic to Orillia.

I’m currently a patient at the Huronia Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic. My experiences there have been wonderful. I have found that the medical care is more comprehensive than any doctor I’ve ever been to. They allocate sufficient time to fully understand the patient’s expressed issues and generally can treat the patient themselves. I’ve always felt rushed through at my doctor’s offices of the past and feel fully listened to by my nurse practitioner.

Where there are limitations of their profession, a doctor referral is available, however.

I have gotten better care for my mental health issues at Huronia than I’ve ever had from a doctor. It has definitely contributed to my ability to continue being a contributing member of society.

I wish those involved great success and I wish for your readers an open mind.
