LETTER: Snowbirds who slipped through loophole 'tone deaf'

Bragging about a winter in Mexico and 'how rich and clever' they are hits all the wrong notes, says letter writer

Interesting to read about Ric and Berni Vernon, the local couple who found a loophole in travel restrictions and enjoyed a wonderful winter in Mexico.

Kudos to them for taking the pandemic seriously and testing multiple times as well as self-isolating, they are responsible citizens.

I am happy for them, they've earned their retirement and dammit, nobody is going to take it from them.

They are good people so I'm sure they are thinking: What about people who are less fortunate than us?

What about the workers who travel by bus for a minimum-wage job, or the nurses and doctors who are pushed to exhaustion every day, the people who were laid off and can't afford to travel or the ones who can afford it but chose not to? How can we make their lives a little better?

Easy, we're going to post a picture of our well-tanned bodies in the local media while we complain about the government and brag about how rich and clever we are.

The Vernons have been away so they might have missed the phrase "tone deaf." They should Google it before they post their next vacation photos.
