At about 2:15 Sunday afternoon, the County of Simcoe reported the service had been restored.

There is currently a 9-1-1 outage in Glenrest Beach, Ramara Township, impacting approximately 320 customers.

A submarine fibre cable that runs through Lake Simcoe is being crushed by ice. Bell National Network Operations Centre has technicians onsite trying to resolve the issue.

The outage impacts landlines only. With the cable being cut, landlines will not work at all. Residents can still use cellphones to call 9-1-1 for emergencies.

Residents should have cellphones charged.

Estimated time of repair is Sunday at the earliest.
