Gas prices have been fluctuating, but the winner of the Crime Stoppers of Simcoe-Dufferin-Muskoka fundraising draw will not have to worry.
Grand prize in the draw is a year’s worth of gas
“You can win $2,600 in prepaid gas cards of your choice,” said Dave Cockburn, chair of the South Simcoe Branch of Crime Stoppers.
And chances are good: only 500 of the $20 tickets have been printed.
Cockburn, who is also a South Simcoe Police Auxiliary officer, is hoping the raffle will sell out this year, raising funds for the organization that offers rewards for anonymous tips leading to an arrest, or the recovery of stolen property or illicit drugs.
Callers to the Crime Stoppers tip line never have to identify themselves or testify in court, but they have been effective in solving crimes.
Since its founding in 1987, Crime Stoppers of Simcoe-Dufferin-Muskoka has received more than 61,000 tips – leading to 4,751 arrests, 7,014 cases cleared, and more than $384,000 in rewards paid out to tipsters.
Draw date is Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at South Simcoe Police North Division in Innisfil – “or earlier, if all of the tickets are sold,” said Cockburn.
Raffle tickets are available from any Crime Stoppers South Simcoe Committee member, or email [email protected].
