The cool, wet weather didn't deter prospective Relay For Life participants from showing up at Chappell Farms on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 for the event kick-off. Event sponsors Pauline and Bruce Chappell were on hand along with their son, Lloyd.

Doug Adams of Adams Funeral Home in Barrie (luminary sponsor) presented Scott McEachern with a cheque for $5,000. Adams Funeral Home has been the luminary sponsor for the Barrie Relay For Life and they continue to contribute again this year to the Barrie/Orillia Relay.

This will be the 18th year for the event, taking place Friday, June 1, 2018 from 6 p.m. to midnight at Chappell Farms, just off Highway 11. Registration can be done online or at the Canadian Cancer Society office at 15 Cedar Pointe Dr., Unit 22 in Barrie. Registration fee is $15 and there is a minimum fundraising goal of $150. The Relay Committee advises that although they have reached their team goal of 35, they would like to surpass that target to having 50 teams registered. The fundraising goal this year is $60,000. Attendees should be pleased with the quarter-mile groomed track for walking on. Food and beverages will be available throughout the evening free of charge for participants.

There will be a trunk sale on Saturday, May 26 from 8 a.m. to noon at 80 Bradford St. in Barrie (parking lot) for teams already registered. Sales will go toward the individual teams' fundraising totals.

For more information, contact Karen at the Canadian Cancer Society office at (705) 726-8032 ext. 3252.
