One of the most anticipated arts events in Orillia is returning next weekend for its 15th year.

Local artists will be in the spotlight during the annual Starry Night Studio and Gallery Tour on Aug. 24.

From 7 to 11 p.m., Peter Street will be closed to traffic in the Arts District to make way for outdoor exhibits, music and more.

“It’s an event that people have loved from the very beginning. There’s something magical about it,” said Starry Night committee chair Linda Tiffin. “It’s a real opportunity to celebrate all of the art and creativity in Orillia.”

More than 100 artists will be represented at the 35 participating venues.

It’s an event that appeals to both artists and visitors, Tiffin explained.

“The artists like to come out and see what other artists are up to, because it tends to be a solitary activity,” she said, “and the patrons like that connection with the artists.”

In recent years, Tiffin said, the event has been attracting younger artists and visitors who are drawn to “the talent and the variety.”

There will be plenty of artwork for sale, but visitors are welcome to simply browse the galleries.
