Nearly 40 vehicles involved in Highway 400 crash, say OPP (6 photos)

The collision blocked the southbound portion of the highway near Bayfield

The Ontario Provincial Police is reporting via Twitter that Highway 400 southbound in Barrie is blocked at Bayfield Street due to a multi-vehicle collision.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said on social media that up to 50 vehicles could be involved and updates will follow.

In an update, Schmidt has noted the highway was closed at Duckworth Street due to the collision.

No serious injuries have been reported.

Schmidt tweeted that the crash "appears weather-related."

The highway has since been reopened.

In a posting on social media on Wednesday night, Schmidt said 39 vehicles were confirmed to have been involved in what were multiple collisions. 

Injuries from the collisions were minor though Schmidt said that four people were taken to hospital.

Schmidt also said that investigations would continue into Thursday though no charges had been laid as of Wednesday night.
