Baycats can wrap up series tonight after St. Kitts pitches Game 2 gem

St. Kitts strikes out 10 Burlington batters for complete-game victory; Game 3 goes at 7 p.m. Sunday

BURLINGTON – Matthew St. Kitts went the distance and struck out 10 as the Barrie Baycats beat the Burlington Herd 6-1 in Game 2 Saturday night at Cosgrove Field. 

Barrie leads the best-of-five series 2-0 after St. Kitts (1-0) allowed one run on five hits with a walk.

Offensively, Branfy Infante homered and drove in two with a pair of runs. Jeff Cowan singled three times and scored once, while Ryan Spataro, Starlin Rodriguez and Jordan Castaldo each had an RBI. 

Nolan Pettipiece drove in Burlington's run, and Justin Gideon doubled. 

Adam Prashad (0-1) took the loss, giving up six runs (three earned) on four hits over five innings. He walked three and struck out one. 

The Baycats can wrap up the series on Sunday night with a win at Coates Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Late run gives Royals win

GUELPH – The Guelph Royals scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to even their best-of-five quarter-final series against Toronto 1-1 after a 3-2 victory over the Maple Leafs Saturday night at David E. Hastings Stadium.

After Toronto scored to tie the game in the top half of the inning, Guelph's Jeff MacLeod singled to lead off the bottom half and scored three batters later when Jon Waltenbury grounded out. 

Angel Villalona went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run, and Sean Reilly singled twice and scored. 

Yomar Concepcion (1-0) threw a complete game four-hitter, allowing two runs on four hits with six walks and 12 strikeouts. 

Connor Lewis had two hits and an RBI for the Leafs.

Zach Sloan (0-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on six hits with five walks and seven strikeouts over 6.2 innings. 

Cardinals one win from advancing 

LONDON – The Hamilton Cardinals are one win from the second round after a 5-4 victory over the London Majors Saturday night at Labatt Park. 

Grant Arnold's sacrifice fly with one out in the top of the ninth scored Greg Marco for the winning run as Hamilton leads the best-of-five series 2-1. Arnold and Chris Beer each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Connor Bowie drove in two, while David Vanderby singled twice and scored once. 

Zackary Gonzalez (1-0) picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings of relief with two walks and two strikeouts. Josh Freeman started and went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits with five walks and four strikeouts.

For London, Keith Kandel had three hits and two RBI, while Evan Britt singled twice and scored twice. Carlos Arteaga doubled and scored.

Kelvin Pichardo (1-1) took the loss, giving up a run on two hits with a walk in the ninth inning. 

Starter Joan Montero lasted eight innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over eight innings. He walked four and struck out seven.
