Shoppers in Orillia will have another place to go for beer and cider in April.

The province recently announced Walmart on Murphy Road is among 87 locations in Ontario that will be able to sell the alcoholic beverages, in addition to the 200-plus retailers that are already doing so.

The businesses were selected through a competitive bidding process held by the LCBO.

Nearby Food Basics also sells beer and cider. It was part of an earlier announcement from the province.

Participating retailers must have designated areas and standard hours of sale.

The province’s plans are to ultimately allow the sale of beer and cider in 450 grocery stores, including up to 300 that will also sell wine.

Other Simcoe County locations that were part of the most recent announcement include Loblaws on Bryne Drive in Barrie, Food Basics on Highway 93 in Midland and FreshCo on Mountain Road in Collingwood.
