BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF ORILLIA

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia and District is happy to welcome Lorie-Anne Roberts as agency Executive Director (ED).

She brings over 20 years of experience working with social service agencies in both non-profit and government organizations. Roberts has an honours Social Service Worker diploma and will be completing her BA in Psychology next year. 

She also has extensive experience in career counselling and coaching, education, and working within the fields of mental health and addictions.  

“I am very excited to be working with an organization that makes such a valuable difference in young people’s lives,” said Roberts. “I am looking forward to continuing Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orillia’s success of fostering and supporting positive mentoring relationships for children in our community.”

The new ED joined the agency on Aug. 6, 2019. Roberts is leading a team that consists of Deanna MacNeish, Intake Coordinator, Leah Kemp, Mentoring Coordinator (covering parental leave) and Darlene Jones, Fundraising and Events Coordinator.

With more than 50 years of service in Orillia and area, the agency is experienced in providing quality service to the community. Its work is endorsed by more than 1,000 individuals annually that support BBBS through one of its events, such as the four signature events, Hockey, Bowl, Golf, and Curling.

Our next event, the 24th Annual Golf for Kids Sake, is on Friday, August 23, at Hawk Ridge Golf & Country Club, Severn. This is followed by the 2nd annual Momma Maris Cornhole tournament to be held September, 14, followed by the 5th annual Man Cave Tour on September 21.

The agency provides free mentoring programs to an average of 250 children and youth annually. Our programs are based in the community and involve 21 schools in the area. The BBBS board is appreciative of the community and its continued support.

“It’s always heartwarming to see donors, volunteers, and other organizations back us,” said Mehreen Shahid, Chair, BBBS. “We hope to not only continue with the current partnerships but also to build on others collaborations.”
