Blue Mountain will be expanding into other colours this holiday season with a cutting-edge light display straight out of a dream world.

The Blumination Dream Trail will brighten spirits at Blue Mountain Village from Dec. 1 to Jan. 6 thanks to engineering and technology created by Smash Reality Inc, a Collingwood-based tech company.

The trail is one-kilometre long and will include vignettes of 3D art made of lights.

Barry Morwood, CEO of Smash Reality, said he and his team have been creating prototypes of the light displays.

“We’ve been working on all the displays, constructing the dynamic lights that are controllable,” said Morwood.

There will be one installation that features lights in the shapes of flowers. A pedestal will allow a passerby to interact with the display. A wave of the hand one way will change the colour of the flowers; the other way will change it again.

Another display called Light so Bright will function like an oversized Lite Brite allowing users to push buttons and create messages or designs on the board.

“It’s a mega-watt winter experience like none other in the region,” states a press release issued by Blue Mountain Village.

Morwood said the mountain put out a request for proposal looking for a company to create an interactive light display. He met with Village staff at the Collingwood Elvis Festival where Smash Reality had set up a kiosk with an interactive Elvis Presley experience.

The Blumination Dream trail will wind through the village and include light shows each evening at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. with fireworks at 8 p.m. on Saturdays.

“It’s an exciting new experience to add to group holiday parties,” said Patti Kendall, director of marketing and events for Blue Mountain Village Association. “And a great addition to your family winter holiday traditions.”
