Blue Mountain Resort announced it joined the Protect Our Winters Resort Alliance as a step toward the resort's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Protect Our Winters is an international movement gathering athletes, enthusiasts, and industry brands to advocate for policy solutions to climate change. The group is joined by a shared interest in outdoor sports and recreation, particularly during the winter season.

The resort alliance is a coalition of resort operators in Canada who "realize they can't stay on the sidelines when it comes to climate change ... the future of skiing depends on taking bold action," states the Protect Our Winters website.

Resort spokesperson, Tara Lovell, manager of public relations, said joining the alliance was a 'primary step' but also an important one.

"At Blue, we have always said that we love winter, and this pledge will help hold ourselves accountable to doing what we can to preserve it," said Lovell in a news release issued by Blue Mountain Resort.

According to the release, Blue's guests can expect to see local Protect Our Winter representatives around the resort through the ski season, and events in support of Protect Our Winter.

Derek McDonald, the regional chapter leader for Protect Our Winter Collingwood, said the local chapter is looking forward to the partnership with the local ski resort.

"Blue Mountain Resort has always been a huge part of the identity of the Collingwood area," said McDonald in the news release. "It is very inspiring to see them take such a big step towards ensuring the protection of winter sports for future generations to enjoy."
