Barrie police are investigating after a body was found in a wooded area near Highway 400 and Bayfield Street, Monday afternoon.
Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said the body was found by a person walking in the area around 2:30 p.m., Monday.
Leon could only say that it was the body of an adult, but no gender was released.
The body was discovered near the southbound on-ramp to Highway 400.
"It is a significant distance into a wooded area," Leon said.
There is a heavy police presence in the area, including uniformed officers, as well as forensic identication officers and detectives with the criminal investigations division.
"The investigation is in its very early stages," said Leon, who added police were waiting on the coroner to arrive on scene.
