The victim in last week's shooting in Oro-Medonte Township has succumbed to his injuries.

Lee William Lackey, 34, was found inside a home on Line 10 North last Wednesday when members of the Orillia detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS) responded to a report of a shooting.

He was transported to a Toronto area hospital, where he subsequently died.

Oro-Medonte resident Peter Vanderveen, 69, was arrested at the scene and charged with attempted murder.

This morning, in a Barrie courtroom, that charge was elevated to first-degree murder.

Orillia OPP Const. Martin Hill told OrilliaMatters after the incident that the two men knew each other. He said it was not known if they were current residents of the address where the shooting occurred.

Watch for more on this story later this morning.
