Careless smoking is believed to be the cause of a small fire Monday in Orillia.
Firefighters responded just before noon to a Dunlop Street residence, where “smoking material” was reported to have ignited a box an occupant was packing.
Deputy Fire Chief Steve Miller said the fire was small and was contained to the bathroom. It resulted in smoke damage.
Two people were in the apartment and were not injured.
Fires caused by smoking and open flames are “all too common,” Miller noted.
“Any time you have an open flame or cigarette material, use extra caution,” he urged.
Cost of damage has not been determined, but Miller said the incident was minor.
