Simcoe County and the Township of Oro-Medonte are partnering again for the third year to celebrate OpenDoors/Culture Day.

Mark Saturday Sept. 21 on your calendar for an entertaining event at Carley Community Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 pm.

This year, The Hall will feature free live music on stage all day. There will be art for sale with watercolor and acrylic paintings, portraits, and vintage designed items and clothing. You will be enticed by the sweet aroma of fresh baked scones in the Carley Community Hall kitchen prepared by Laurie Neill formerly from the White Lions Tea House. The scones will be served with lemon curd, cream, and jam, alongside a pot of tea.

The musical roster includes Orillia‘s Sunshine Strings at 11:30 a.m. This creative group under the leadership of Mayumi Kumagi will entertain you with lively popular show tunes.

Carley Community Hall is proud to welcome Anne Walker, singer /songwriter at 1 p.m. Anne’s roots are in Coulson, a hamlet in Oro-Medonte close to the Hall.

Currently based in Toronto, Anne writes with her heart and soul about the rural history of the area. Her haunting voice is often compared to Anne Murray and Connie Kaldor. You can listen to her music at www.annewalker.ca .

Our third musician represents youth. Paige Kash is a young singer /songwriter from Toronto’s Etobicoke School for the Arts. She excels in blues and ballads with a strong clear voice and fine guitar playing .

We invite you to take some time on Saturday, Sept. 21 to drive to the country and visit Carley Community Hall. The Hall, which is owned by the Township is lovingly supported by a dedicated group of volunteers.

It is a historic building, (1912), originally Carley School, maintaining many of the original features of its one-room school house roots. The building is available to the community for rentals.

It is a unique venue for weddings with its rural setting. The open bright space with original flooring provides an excellent location for workshops, exercise or yoga classes, for showers or meetings. The upgraded kitchen allows for family gatherings and dinners. We are located at 396 Warminster Sideroad. You can also check out the Hall at www.carleycommunityhall.com and at Facebook.com/carleycommunityhall.

We look forward to seeing you there.
