CFUW Orillia is pleased to announce that 15 deserving young Orillia-area women pursuing post-secondary education were granted scholarships in 2022.

The scholarships ranged from $1,050 to $2,000 for a total of $25,000.

The students who received scholarships are (from Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School) Brielle Tanzi-Foshay, Madelyn Healy and Samantha Stong, (from the Learning Centre) Rebecca Bell, (from Orillia Secondary School) Brianna Mandarino, Abigail DeGroot, Grace Locker, Peyton Nie, Fatima Zoha and Emily Moore, (from Twin Lakes Secondary School) Lauren Mihills, Rylie Prosser, Ava Barjak, Elora Mae Cronk and Samantha Duggan.

Each year, the applications submitted are evaluated on the students’ academic achievement, school and community involvement and financial need, and are reviewed by a committee of CFUW Orillia members. Other criteria may also be considered, depending on individual circumstances.

CFUW Orillia members are very interested in these young women and follow their progress as they navigate their chosen fields of study. Many students give back by working at the next year’s Homes for Scholarships Tour, held on the first Sunday in June. The tour is the signature fundraising event for CFUW Orillia. Also, the scholarship recipients participate in an August celebratory event where the current-year winners are given a send-off.

Since 1974, CFUW Orillia has awarded $371,275 in scholarships to 725 women. CFUW Orillia looks forward to awarding more scholarships in 2023 and thanks the community for their continuing support of the Homes for Scholarships Tour and for their generous donations.

Applications for 2023 are now available on the CFUW Orillia website, cfuworillia.org. Young women who will be graduating in the spring of 2023 from Orillia attendance-area secondary schools and the Learning Centre, as well as mature students, are eligible to apply. Two special scholarships will also be awarded in 2023 in honour of longtime CFUW Orillia member Bev Long. Further details can be found on the website, cfuworillia.org. Application deadline is April 13, 2023. Any questions may be submitted to [email protected].
