Two members of the Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed at Provincial Winter Festivals in Nepean. Hayley French (12) raced in the 100- and 200-metre butterfly and teammate Blythe Wieclawek (12) competed in the 50 and 100 freestyle, 100 and 200 backstroke and 200 Individual Medley.

French set two new club records in both of her butterfly events, 100 metre (1:10.85) and 200 metre (2:40.58).

“Hayley just missed out on a bronze medal in her 200-metre butterfly. She had a great race and paced it quite well,” says head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards.

Hayley placed 8th in her 100 butterfly and 4th in the 200 while Wieclawek placed 6th in 50 freestyle and 9th in the 100 backstroke.

“We have two more provincial meets coming up March 1-4 in Etobicoke and March 8-11 in Markham that we are gearing up for,” adds Thompson-Edwards.
