Child badly hurt in Haliburton snowmobile mishap

On February 19, 2018 at approximately 3:36 p.m., officers from the Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motorized snow vehicle (MSV) collision on private property on Lake Kawagama in the Township of Algonquin Highlands.

Two young children were injured after a snowmobile they were on accelerated and collided with a fixed object. As a result of the collision one child was air-lifted to a Toronto area trauma center with life threatening injuries. The other child sustained minor injuries.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) are on scene and assisting with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
