City set to open two new municipal parking lots

New lots will mean another 53 parking spots, available for $1 per hour

The City of Orillia is adding two parking lots to its inventory of downtown municipal parking lots effective July 26, 2018.

The new municipal lot located on Mississaga Street East, in the parking lot of the former King’s Buffet restaurant, will be the City’s Municipal Parking Lot 8. The new municipal lot off Centennial Drive, along a portion of the former rail lands will be the City’s Municipal Parking Lot 12.

The new Municipal Parking Lots 8 and 12 typically attract visitors focused on the restaurant and retail options available in Downtown Orillia. In order to create an equitable parking management system consistent with the remainder of the downtown, a paid parking service, similar to the other downtown areas, is being implemented.

“The funds collected from all municipal parking lots helps maintain and improve the condition of existing parking lots, as well as assist in funding future parking needs within the City of Orillia,” said Wesley Cyr, Manager of Engineering and Transportation.

Payment for parking will be required Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 
except statutory holidays.

The City is also in the final stages of implementing a mobile application that will provide residents and visitors the option to pay for parking in Downtown Orillia from their smartphone.

More information on the new app will be provided in the coming weeks.Orillia Council approved the capital project to upgrade the parking lots at Mississaga Street East and Centennial Drive as part of the 2018 budget.
