Community support for OSMH lifts soldiers' spirits (10 photos)

In this week's Spirit of Soldiers, those who are stepping up to support the troops are recognized and thanked for their efforts

Editor's note: OrilliaMatters is partnering with Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH) Foundation to pay tribute to the front-line 'soldiers' who are going above and beyond the call of duty inside Orillia's hospital in what is expected to be a protracted battle against the COVID-19 global pandemic. We will endeavour to publish this every Friday until the pandemic passes.

The heart and soul of OSMH, its 'soldiers,' are the front-line staff working hard to ensure the community's safety and well-being every day and throughout this pandemic.

The community also plays a key support role. And while community members have stepped up in a variety of ways since the COVID-19 pandemic began, this week, they outdid themselves.

On Thursday evening, dozens of cars, many decorated with messages of thanks, paraded around the hospital honking their horns in a loud and proud joint gesture of love for those on the front line.

Then, today, members of various first-responder agencies joined forces for a drive-by parade, sirens and lights blaring, that served as a moving tribute to those soldiers who work tirelessly to help heal the sick.

Joining the convoy were representatives from Orillia OPP, the Orillia Fire Department, Rama Police Service, Rama Paramedic Service, Rama Fire Department, Ramara Fire Department, Simcoe County Paramedic Services and Orillia Power Corporation.

There are many other smaller gestures and thank-yous happening that fly under the radar but are no less meaningful to those putting their lives on the line.
