The following is a running list of events, businesses and organizations that have announced cancellations, closures or postponements due to COVID-19. If you would like your notice added to this list, please email news@orilliamatters.com. Additionally, please refer to the Government of Ontario COVID-19 page for information.

Orillia and District Soccer Club - fields are currently closed until May 31, but we are poised to deliver a program as soon as fields are reopened and it is safe to play. Safety and the well being of players, coaches, parents and volunteers remains our utmost priority. Club executive will communicate updates with registrants as information is made available. Thank you for your patience.

Sweet Oven in Orillia and Barrie will be closing as of Saturday March 21 at 6 p.m. until further notice to try and help to do our part.

Effective Friday, March 20, all Georgian campuses will remain closed to students until further notice. All programs move to remote delivery starting Monday, March 23. Students should check Blackboard for instructions.

Simcoe County Connexion offices in Barrie, Bracebridge, Collingwood, Huntsvilleon, Midland and Orillia are closed the public as of Thursday, March 19. We continue to operate and provide child protection and child and youth mental health services to the community. For services call 1-800-461-4236.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore on James Street in Orillia has suspended its operations - which includes donations and pick-ups, as of March 19.

St. Athanasius Anglican Church has cancelled all worship services and group activities until further notice. For emergencies, leave a message at 705-325-1861 and someone will contact you.

At St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church on Jamieson Drive, events and services have been suspended until further notice. Check website or contact church for information and updates.

The Jubilee Chorale has cancelled its 2020 season effective immediately. There will be no rehearsals and no May concert. The hope is to resume in September.

Sunrise Toyota closed due to the recent developments in the community effective March 18, 2020.

The annual Bill Swinimer Business Leader of the Year Award Dinner, slated for April 21, has been postponed.

All services and programs at OCC (Orillia Community Church) are cancelled for the immediate future.

Community Legal Clinic offices in Orillia, Barrie, Collingwood, and Midland are closed to all in-person meetings and services

Mariposa Arts April screenings are cancelled. To protect the health and safety of our audiences, and following the directives from public health authorities, your Film Nights committee has decided to suspend activities for the month of April. If we are able to return for our final film on May 6, you will be the first to know.

Orillia Bowl has closed until further notice.

Effective 4:30 p.m. on March 17, 2020, the following services and facilities in the County of Simcoe are being closed to the public until further notice: ·       

  •  Simcoe County Library Co-operative       
  •  Simcoe County Archives        
  •  Simcoe County Museum       
  •  Tourism Simcoe County Information Kiosk        
  • County Administration Centre – including the Service Simcoe Desk (phone lines and other means of contact remain open)        
  • County of Simcoe Landfills and Transfer Stations – closed to the public. (Industrial, Commercial and Institutional customers who have no alternative disposal options are encouraged to contact Service Simcoe at [email protected] or 1-800-263-3199)       
  • All county events and gatherings, including in-person Council and Committees are cancelled for March and into April

Hardwood Ski & Bike closed at 5 p.m. March 17 for the season.

The Orillia Geneva Bingo Hall will be closed until March 31 or longer depending on the spread of Coronavirus.

Out of an abundance of caution, Girl Guides of Canada have made the decision to suspend all in-person Girl Guide activities until Tuesday, April 14, beginning immediately. This course of action was chosen to ensure the health and well-being of girls, adult members, volunteers and the greater community.

All facilities in Oro-Medonte are closed and all programs have been cancelled.

All OSPCA animal centres and clinics are closed.

Proactive Health Care will be closed until March 30.

Orillia Music Centre will be closing their doors until schools are re-opened. Music lessons will be switched to online lessons starting March 23.

The Township of Severn is making changes to services and programming, effective March 17. These changes will remain in effect until April 5 and will be evaluated for potential extension beyond that date.​The Administration Office at 1024 Hurlwood Lane​ will be closed to the public starting tomorrow. Municipally-owned recreation and culture ​facilities are closed, and all recreation and library programs and activities are cancelled.

Ricks Driving School is closed until further notice.

The Orillia Museum of Art & History is closed until further notice.

--

The Township of Severn has closed its public library, in Coldwater, effective March 16.

--

Public roller skating at The Roller Skating Place is cancelled until further notice, effective March 16.

Amanda Stanton, artistic director of the Orillia Kiwanis Music Festival, announced March 16 the annual Kiwanis Music Festival has been cancelled. Plans are underway to develop a virtual festival.

Routine appointments will no longer be booked by Orillia family physicians and some protocols are changing. Details here.

Lakehead University has cancelled all remaining athletic and recreational programming for this semester including the March 27 athletic banquet.

Casino Rama is postponing the following concerts: 

  • Bill Engvall on Friday, March 20 (9p.m.),
  • Ice Cube on Friday March 27(9 p.m.); and 
  • Jake Owen on Saturday, March 28 (8 p.m.).

The Orillia Museum of Art and History has cancelled the March 18 Speaker Series event featuring the Orillia Silver Band.

Sport Orillia has decided to postpone the annual Orillia Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction. The event had been slated for April 18 at Hawk Ridge Golf and Country Club. A new date will be announced at a later time.

St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church groups, events, and worship services are cancelled until the end of March.

Goodlife Fitness and Fit4Less are closing all locations across Canada until further notice.

--

Mount St. Louis Moonstone, Horseshoe Resort and Snow Valley will close for the season at end of business hours Sunday, March 15.

All Georgian College athletic facilities will be closed as of Monday, March 16.

--

Ellwood Epps is moving to online and phone sales only effective Sunday, March 15. This decision aims to encourage social distancing practices and keep  employees and clientele safe.In the interest of public safety, customers will not be allowed into the store until further notice. Online and phone orders can be picked up at the doorstep.

West Ridge Early Education Centre is now closed.

Casino Rama will be closed, effective 10 p.m. Monday, March 16 until further notice.

--

St. David, Anglican/Lutheran has suspended all services and gatherings until further notice.

--

The annual Simcoe Spring Home and Cottage Show has been postponed. Organizers plan to announce new dates at a later time.

--

All Simcoe Muskoka YMCAs, including the one in Orillia, have closed their facilities until April 6.

--

Hospice Orillia has put all group support programs on hold until April 5. The PILO-NSM support group that was scheduled to begin on April 8 has also been postponed. 

--

Musician Sarah Harmer has postponed her tour. That means her show at the Opera House, scheduled for April 15, has also been postponed. She hopes to resume her tour and plans to honour tickets already purchased.

Sunday worship services are cancelled for the next two weeks at St. Paul's United Church in Orillia.

The Ontario Basketball Association has suspended all basketball programming until after the Easter weekend. The U11 and U12 Provincials and Ontario Cup have been cancelled. As such, effective immediately, the Orillia Lakers are cancelling all practices, games, house league sessions and team events, including team parties, until further notice.

The City of Orillia has decided to close the Orillia Public Library and Orillia Youth Centre, until further notice, effective March 15. In addition, all city March Break camps and recreation programming are now cancelled.

St. David's Anglican/Lutheran Church announced the suspension of worship and ministry events. The church will, however, hand out brown-bagged breakfast Sunday morning between 9-10 a.m. at 133 James St.

All Anglican Sunday church services are suspended until further notice.

The Orillia Naturalists’ Club has cancelled their April 1 meeting. However, the club is continuing its outings. Bird migration is going on, the birds and frogs are starting to call. An outdoor activity may be the best therapy for those who are being socially isolated, noted a club organizer.

Orillia Minor Lacrosse has suspended all activities until April 5. Registration remains open.

Orillia Square Mall has cancelled its March break activities.

Casino Rama Resort regrets to announce that the Celtic Woman Celebration 15 Years of Music & Magic concert scheduled for Friday, April 3 has been postponed. Celtic Woman has announced they are postponing their current tour in light of the current recommendations regarding large gatherings. The casino hopes to reschedule the concert.

The Township of Oro-Medonte is suspending the operation of recreation facilities and programs including March Break Day Camp, until further notice. Refunds will be issued. For more information visit their website.

Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton has cancelled the following events:

  • Orillia Spring Shamrock Skate - Tuesday, March 17, 2020  
  • Coldwater Passport Clinic - Wednesday, March 18, 2020  
  • Ramara Passport Clinic - Wednesday, April 8, 2020  
  • Midland Feast for Learning - Friday, April 17, 2020

Where possible, Stanton said these events would be rescheduled.

Casino Rama Resort regrets to announce that the Irish Rovers concert scheduled for Saturday, March 14 at 8 p.m. has been postponed.

Storytelling Orillia's March 28 event, Maadaadizi, has been postponed until further notice.

The Orillia Chamber of Commerce announced the Board of Directors of the Sharing Place has decided to cancel the upcoming Business After 5 that was scheduled for March 18.

The Orillia Silver Band's event, SHINE!, slated for March 22 and April 4, 2020 at the Orillia Opera House has been postponed. Organizers say the show will be rescheduled for Nov. 1, 2020.

Ramara Township has decided to close all municipal facilities including its community centres, administration centre and library from March 16 to April 5, with the possibility of extension. All March break camps are cancelled and room bookings are cancelled for March and April. The Mariposa Arts Film Nights committee has decided to cancel the March 25 screening of And the Birds Rained Down.

An Evening with Grandmother Isabelle Meawasige, set for Saturday, March 14 at the Orillia Opera House, has been cancelled.

The Orillia Museum of Art & History has cancelled its Speakeasy special event that had been scheduled for March 27. Officials are planning the rescheduled Speakeasy for Friday, Sept. 18. The musuem remains open regular hours.

Georgian College has cancelled in-person classes at all seven campuses for next week; staff will prepare to move to remote learning for the rest of the semester.

Lakehead University has cancelled its in-person classes for Monday and Tuesday of next week and will move to remote learning for the remainder of the semester.

Weekend concerts at Casino Rama this weekend have been cancelled.

The Lighthouse Soup Kitchen and shelter cancelled their Saturday drop-in and community meal program.

The Orillia Fairgrounds Farmers' Market at ODAS Park, which typically runs every Saturday morning, has been cancelled until schools reopen.

Simcoe County implements measures at long-term care homes, cancels museum programs.

All Orillia Minor Hockey Association, Orillia Girls' Hockey Association and North Central Predators AAA hockey programs' games and practices have been suspended.

The Barrie and Mariposa Folk groups have postponed their Sunday March 15th Concert at The Five Points Theatre. All tickets will be honored for a future show date, which will be announced as soon as it can be determined, potentially late spring or next fall, and dependent on the performer's schedules. 

The Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons concerts scheduled for Saturday, March 21 and Sunday March 22 at Casino Rama Resort have been postponed. The casino is working to reschedule the performance and will provide details once available. People can hold onto their original tickets, which will be honoured for the rescheduled performance, or they can get a refund. Anyone looking for a refund must return to the original point of purchase.

Georgian College officials announced today that they have cancelled this weekend's powwow at the Barrie campus due to concerns over COVID-19.

All publicly funded schools will be closed for two weeks following March break. 

The Ontario Hockey League has suspended its season until further notice. 

Cineplex is asking that "anyone who is feeling unwell refrain from visiting" its theatres

The National Hockey League announced this afternoon that it has postponed the the 2019-20 season, beginning with games scheduled for Thursday night. That follows similar decisions by the NBA, MLS, NLL and MLB.
