Do you ever wonder why people choose to live and work in Orillia?

OrilliaMatters announces partnership with Why Orillia to bring you stories about "some of the most amazing people and businesses" in the city

Throughout his life, people have asked Jordan Rossman a question that has often puzzled him.

Whether it was when his parents moved their young family to the Sunshine City or when, as a young adult, he moved back to his adopted hometown, people often asked Rossman: “Why Orillia?”

He got the sense from many – those who did not live in Orillia – that they looked down on Orillia and didn’t understand its attraction. For Rossman, Orillia is home; it's  the place that has captured his heart.

“Why Orillia? The answer is Orillia is home to some of the most amazing people and businesses, is an incredibly giving community and has some of the most beautiful scenery in all of Ontario,” he says. “And I want to give back to this community by highlighting some of those amazing people, businesses and places.”

And, since May, he’s been doing just that. He launched a Why Orillia Facebook page on which, each week, he profiles an Orillian or a local enterprise that is doing something positive, unique or meaningful.

“The response has been incredible,” said Rossman, noting viewership of his weekly video series has now garnered more than 60,000 views.

Buoyed by “incredible support from the community”, Rossman is working hard to improve the quality of the videos and is honing his craft as both a videographer and interviewer.

“It’s a labour of love for me,” said Rossman, a local realtor. “I just love to highlight all that is right about Orillia.”

There is much to highlight, he said, noting he plans to do this forever. “I can’t see any reason why I would ever have to stop: There’s so many amazing people and businesses and places … it’s incredible.”

OrilliaMatters has partnered with Rossman to help him share his stories. Each Thursday, OrilliaMatters will publish his Why Orillia segment. We invite you to tune in!

If you have a person or business you would like to see featured in this segment, send a brief bio of the person/business/organization with contact information to [email protected]

While Rossman’s first Why Orillia segment launched in May, we hope you enjoy his OrilliaMatters debut: an interview with Linda Goodall, the executive director of the Lighthouse Shelter and Soup Kitchen.
