Do you love going to the movies, but are tired of the same old Hollywood productions? Mariposa Arts Theatre’s Film Nights has the answer for you. MAT Film Nights is Orillia’s popular local source for outstanding movies.
Since 1996 MAT Film Nights has brought top quality, award-winning and alternative films to Orillia audiences. Thousands of happy movie-goers have learned that they can rely on Film Nights to bring them excellent cinematic entertainment drawn from Canada and around the world.
Film Nights is a member of Film Circuit, the national outreach branch of the Toronto International Film Festival. That means that Orillians can see TIFF movies right in their own city.
Next up on Wednesday Oct. 2 is Crossing, a drama that takes a woman searching for her long-lost niece on a journey to Istanbul. Crossing has received rave reviews from critics for its intelligent and emotionally engaging presentation of a rich and rewarding tapestry of characters and cultures.
The season opened with two films in September: Queen of My Dreams, an imaginative Canadian-Pakistani comedy/drama, and Wilfred Buck, an inspiring and thought-provoking documentary about a Cree elder. It continues with Ghostlight on Oct. 23, The Great Escaper on Nov. 13, Thelma on Nov. 20, and a yet to be announced film on Dec. 4.
