Extreme cold snap prompts warming station extensions

In response to an extreme cold warning issued for the area, the City of Orillia has extended the availability of warming stations for public use.

Residents are encouraged to visit the following locations during regular hours of operation to warm up during these exceptionally cold temperatures:
    •    Barnfield Point Recreation Centre, 500 Atherley Rd. 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
    •    Orillia City Centre, 50 Andrew St. S. 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (weekdays)
    •    Orillia Public Library, 36 Mississaga St. W.; 10 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6
    •    Rotary Place, 100 University Ave. 5:30 a.m. to midnight

The warming centres will be available for the duration of this extreme cold warning/winter weather advisory, which is anticipated to be in effect until Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018.

The Lighthouse located at 48 Peter St. S. will also open its doors overnight to anyone needing relief from the cold.
