*************************
Local non-profit Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie is holding their first virtual Power of the Purse fundraiser this Saturday Jan. 30, and some homegrown talent will be a big part of the evening.

This is the fifth annual Power of the Purse, a favourite event of Dress for Success supporters in which guests get to bid on one-of-a-kind and designer purses, unique experiences and more.

The silent auction items are open for bidding right now, and three spectacular live auction items are currently available for preview and will open for bidding during the event. The three live auction items include a luxury Prince Edward County getaway/wine experience, a Strathberry handbag, and a catered dinner for six from Chopped Canada champion and owner of Eclectic Cafe, Melanie Robinson.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 and will feature a warmup performance from comedian, activist and Barrie local Andrea Murray. Andrea has years of experience under her belt as a fun, witty entertainer and is a must-have guest for benefits and events.

Also performing at the virtual fundraiser is Tabitha Johnson, a talented 24-year-old classical pianist from Barrie. Tabitha holds a Bachelors of Music and a Minor in Business Entrepreneurship from McGill University, and is currently studying to obtain a Masters of Music at Manhattan School of Music. She placed third at the Canadian Music Competition in Quebec, and in June 2018 she attended the Miami Music Festival where she won the concerto competition and performed with the orchestra. Tabitha also worked for Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie for a period, which was where she saw first-hand how important non-profit work is for a community.

Dress for Success Orillia and Barrie is thrilled to have these talented women performing at Power of the Purse, and hopes that this inspiring, uplifting night will be a welcome escape for everyone staying at home.
