Simcoe Muskoka Medical Officer of Health Dr. Charles Gardner is one of three speakers at a special forum on climate change and health, taking place in Barrie.

Hosted by a group of Barrie physicians, the talk on the health impacts of the climate crisis takes place on Sept. 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Rotunda of Barrie’s City Hall. There will be an hour-long presentation followed by a Q&A session.

Dr. Gardner joins Dr. Brent Elsey and Dr. Brad Dibble, both from Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

The general public is invited and admission is free. Elected representatives from each level of government — municipal, county, provincial and federal — have been invited as well. The event is called Barrie Doctors On Climate Solutions (Barrie DOCS).

The physicians hope to increase awareness and educate the community about health impacts by the climate crisis. They will provide some of the preventive solutions and mitigation strategies that individuals, communities and levels of government can take.

The physicians hope to increase engagement in these solutions. Finally, they hope to advocate our elected policy- and decision-makers to move from planning and discussions to action.
