Officials are investigating a fire that destroyed a cottage Monday night in Severn Township.

Firefighters were called at 6:30 p.m. to the property on Wood Avenue, near Menoke Beach Road. It is a large property that houses several cottages, said Dianne Kyle, fire prevention officer with Severn.

No one was home when the fire started, she said, noting the owners showed up as crews were putting out the blaze.

No one was injured.

The estimated cost of damage is $125,000, and the cottage is a write-off, Kyle said. There was also some damage to the siding on a neighbouring structure, totalling about $5,000.

Thirty-two firefighters responded to the scene, where officials remained until almost 10 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
