Fire engulfs home in Oro-Medonte; woman sent to hospital

A woman was taken to hospital after a spectacular house fire Sunday evening in Oro-Medonte.

Emergency crews responded shortly after 5 p.m. to a residence on Line 12, south of Highway 12.

The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

Oro-Medonte firefighters remain on the scene and continue to battle the blaze as of 6:30 p.m. Line 12 is currently closed as tanker trucks are being used to shuttle water to the home.

The injured woman was taken to Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital. The extent of her injuries was not immediately known, said Orillia OPP Const. Martin Hill.

The investigation is ongoing.
