First COVID-19 case found in Simcoe County schools through asymptomatic testing

There have been 1,383 tests completed so far through the clinics since they began last month

The results of the first four weeks of voluntary asymptomatic testing have turned up one case of COVID-19 in Simcoe County schools, according to the province's reporting as of today (April 6).

In the last local round of asymptomatic testing, 138 tests were completed as part of the Simcoe County District School Board’s fourth clinic, held on March 25 at Nantyr Shores Secondary School in Innisfil. One positive result was returned, however, no information is being provided by the province on which school the positive case came from. Students and staff from Alcona Glen Elementary School, Goodfellow Public School, Innisfil Central Public School, Lake Simcoe Public School, and Simcoe Shores Secondary School (Innisfil location) were also eligible to attend the clinic.

Over at the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, 168 tests were completed at their fourth clinic on March 24 at Holy Trinity Catholic High School in Bradford. The province is reporting that no positive cases were discovered as part of that clinic.

In total over the first four weeks of voluntary asymptomatic testing, there have been 1,383 tests completed, with one positive result reported by the province through any of the Simcoe County clinics.

Through the Simcoe County District School Board, this week’s asymptomatic testing clinic will be taking place on Thursday, April 8 from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Banting Memorial High School at 203 Victoria Street East in Alliston.

Students and staff from Alliston Union Public School, Boyne River Public School, Cookstown Central Public School, Ernest Cumberland Elementary School, the Learning Centre (Alliston campus) and Simcoe Shores Secondary School (Alliston location) are also eligible to attend.

Through the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, this week’s asymptomatic testing clinic will be taking place on Wednesday, April 7 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St Theresa's Catholic High School at 347 Galloway Blvd in Midland.

Students from Canadian Martyrs Catholic School, Monsignor Castex Catholic School, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, St. Ann's Catholic School, St. Antoine Daniel Catholic School and Sacred Heart Catholic School are also eligible to attend.
